MCYC's vision is a community that makes every child and youth count.
MCYC's vision is a community that makes every child and youth count by providing relevant, relatable and life affirming prosocial activities to every court-involved youth in Mecklenburg County.
Together we can improve the lives of more than 1,000 teens in our county. MCYC works hard to influence judicial policy change, pilot programs, fund grants, build awareness, increase participants and continue to allow kids to be kids.
The Mecklenburg County Youth Coalition's mission is to provide each court involved youth with relevant and relatable prosocial activities that will foster a youth's competence, connectivity and cultural awareness.
Participants have more completed years of education, show reduced drop-out rates regardless of ethnicity or gender, decreases in delinquent behavior and increases in community connection.
Participation in prosocial activities help prepare youth for adulthood as healthy connections with adults can provide a secure emotional base.
Adolescent brain research confirms these experiences are critical to young people's maturation.
We now know resilience can be enhanced and learned, resilience can be built through connectedness, participation, structure, support, critical reflection, communication and self-care.
